1955 Ford Thunderbird with removable hardtop When Ford Motor Company came out with the sporty Thunderbird in 1955, I thought they were really neat. In the summer of 1956 I almost bought a red T-bird with a white hardtop. I was ready to go to the Dealer to complete the deal when my dad talked me out of it. He told me to save my money because I was going to be married in five months and I should save my money for my family. Besides a two-seater car is not a practical car for a young married couple. Dad won and I never owned a T-bird until now. This small two passenger sporty design didn’t last too long. Ford decided that they wanted to make a bigger sporty car and soon it was a four passenger T-bird. These were bad moves as far as I’m concerned. Ford had a good thing going but didn’t stay with it. Ford came out with another small two-seater around 2000 but again they decided not to continue with that design. This car is fun to drive but it isn’t the easiest car to get in and out of. We did some refurbishing work to the car but we did not take it to a Show Car condition because I want to keep it as a fun Driver Car. It also is a two top car. There is a soft top along with the white hard top that is shown on the picture. |
