1954 Ford Crestline Two Door Hard Top This car is like the second car I owned except the bottom exterior color of my 1954 was the medium green color like the interior green. It has the same vinyl white with green-trim interior and the drive train is like my original 1954 Victoria. 1954 was the first year that Ford came out with their over-head valve V-8 engine. This style of engine replaced the flat head V-8 that Ford used since 1932. This car is also equipped with a Ford-A-Matic automatic transmission; power steering and power brakes were also installed on this car. This car brings back memories of a yearlong challenge from a friend of mine who had a 1955 Chevy Belair Two Door Hard Top with the “New Hot Chevy V-8” engine. He wanted to challenge me to a ¼ mile Drag Race because he kept saying his Chevy could beat my Ford anytime. This went on for a year when I finally said I would accept his challenge just to get him off my back. We ran the ¼ mile and I won by 1½ car length. He had an excuse and wanted to drag again. We did and I won by 1½ car length again. He had another excuse and wanted to do it the third time. We did and I won by 1½ car length again. I never heard him challenge my Ford again so I guess that Chevy wasn’t the “Hot One”. I had my 1954 Vic when I got married and kept it for the next three years. |
